July Results
Despite the heat, 37 pistol shooters came out to shoot 39 guns at the July match. Those that came out were challenged with 4 pistol courses in the morning plus the two rifle and one shotgun course in the afternoon.
The pistol courses included a variety of challenges including the Texas Star, a modified standards course, a classifier and a 32 round field course that could have been shot a hundred different ways. The round count for the four courses added up to 91.
Seven shooters stayed on through the afternoon to shoot the long gun courses.
Congratulations to all the Division and Class winners!

To recognize a class, there must be at least three shooters within that class.
Please note that these scores almost did not make it in the newsletter! After the July match, only 11 of the 39 sets of score sheets were found in the box in the shed, where they were supposed to have been placed. The missing sheets were found a week later still in the club house.
Furthermore, it appears that some of the score sheets were not completely filled or illegible. When that happens, the score keeper can only score them as he sees them. If you do not mark “Major”, all scores will be scored as “Minor”. If you do not indicate “Limited-10” on the gold sheet, it will be assumed that you are shooting “Limited”.
Keep hydrated!!!
August in Kansas can be brutal to the unprepared. Make sure to bring plenty of water or other suitable beverage for the August match! Hopefully it will be cooler than the July match but there are no guarantees. Likewise, while there is a water dispenser in the club house, there is no guarantee that it will be full. Bring your own beverage!
Setting up on the Day of the Match
Range is open at 7:00 AM for setup. If setup crew is going to be late on a stage, please contact J.D. Smith ahead of time. This way extra range setup personnel can be funneled to help on other stages that are in trouble.
If you are relatively new at setting up a course or unsure of what to set up, check in with J.D. Smith. He will provide you with direction on what is needed.
If you require assistance in building the course, you will be able to enlist a volunteer or two on the day of the match to help you haul stuff, set up targets and do what ever is necessary.
Skills Development Matches
The last two Skills Development Matches of 2005 are on Sundays, August 7 and September 4. As something different, the September date may be a long gun match. More details will be forthcoming. Check the club web site or your email in the coming weeks.
Registration and setup at 9:00 AM, LE range, Millcreek Rifle Club. Registration Fee is $15 for members.
One of the membership requirements of MPSL is setting up two stages during the year. If you have fulfilled this requirement, thank you for meeting your membership obligations!
NRA Membership
As part of shooting at the Millcreek Rifle Club range, it is required that all MPSL members also belong to the NRA. Please bring a copy of your NRA publication with the address label or a NRA membership card as a proof of current membership when you renew MPSL membership for 2005.
You can renew your NRA membership at a discount through the club.
While 2006 may seem pretty distant in the future, end of August marks the 2/3 point on the calendar. It’s time to start planning for the upcoming year and the next year’s BoD.
If you are interested in becoming one of the highly compensated members of the Millcreek Practical Shooting League’s Board of Directors, contact the current board. A ballot with all interested members will be assembled for an election on the December match date.
