Additional pistol stages at the June match
·
Note the sign-up for second Rifle stage (Open Slot for June)
May Results
Forty-one pistol shooters came out in the morning to shoot four pistol stages. Due to the rains, 25 Yard North was flooded out and an alternate classifier “Madness” CM 03-08 was used in place of the originally planned classifier CM 03-10, that had multiple starts and stops. The COFs ranged in variety from the speed course with a popper activated turner and an activator pad triggered flopper to a 32 round track meet on the LE Range for a total round count of 96.
We had couple long gun only shooters join the match for 14 Rifle/12 Shotgun rounding the total count to 43. The additional stages and higher round count appears to be a popular with the long gun shooters but, we need your participation in setting up the extra stage. To ensure that it is set-up, we now have an additional column on the RO sheet for the second rifle. If you regularly shoot long gun, please look at the sign-up sheet to see where you can help.
Congratulations to all the class winners.

Safety
There were two competitors that DQ’d at the May match. The first DQ was an accidental discharge during a reload at one of the pistol stages. No injuries resulted from this incident.
The second incident was during one of the rifle stages. The shooter had an accidental discharge into the berm while showing clear. No injuries were associated with this incident.
Quick reminder about the DQ policy. Once the competitor is disqualified, he/she is finished shooting for the day. all scores pertaining to the segment of the match are disqualified. The complete DQ policy may be found on the club web site.
Pistol Courses
For the June match, the club will have access to almost the entire range. Two to four additional courses of fire are being planned raising the total round count to 160-170. Stages envisioned include:
·
Classifier on 25 yd South
·
Short field course on 25yd North
·
Big field course on 50 yd
·
Multiple speed courses on the 200/500 yd rifle range
·
Big field course on LE
Although the round count has gone up, the match fee is still $15.
Finally, even with the increased round count, the goal of still finishing up by 1:00 PM. This will help us work out the logistics of running additional stages for the Area 3.
Long Gun Stages
All rifle and shotgun shooters are enjoying high round counts, and more courses. However, with three rifle stages and two squads, all rifle shooters when preparing for the afternoon match need to check the ranges to make sure all 3 ranges are set up and if necessary assist in completing setup. This will make it so that all rifle shooters can be able to enjoy shooting and both squads can end at a reasonable time. The LE range was setup by a single person with NO help, while a squad stood around and then started shooting without their score sheets. Setup needs to be a team effort and no person should be left to setup up a course alone that all will be shooting.
June match will follow the pistol match as usual. We will have use of the 25yrd (shotgun), 50yrd/200yrd (rifle) and LE (rifle).
With 3 rifle stages a month, we now need more volunteers to setup up the third rifle stage. Thank you to all who went above your normal club responsibilities and sign up at the May match.
Please note that the RO sign-up sheet has a new column for the second rifle stage. There is an Open Slot for June
Setting up on the Day of the Match
Range is open at 7:00 AM for setup. If setup crew is going to be late on a stage please contact J.D. Smith ahead of time. This way extra range setup personnel can be funneled to help on other stages that are in trouble.
If you are relatively new at setting up a course or unsure of what to set up, check in with J.D. Smith. He will provide you with direction on what is needed.
If you require assistance in building the course, you will be able to enlist a volunteer or two on the day of the match to help you haul stuff, set up targets and do what ever is necessary.
Registration & Squadding
Time to register is quickly running out. If you have already registered, you need to get on a squad. This is done through the on-line squadding system off of the USPSA Area 3 site. At this time, All Sunday slots are full but there are openings on both Friday and Saturday. You can also view squadding information through the Area 3 link off the club’s website.
Area 3 Build Days
The first Area 3 build day on April 30th had 8 people who ripped 100 2x4’s in half, got a total of 52 frames for walls built, with 24 walls totally completed and painted, before running out of supplies. Look for invitations for another build day!
In addition, we will be seeking volunteers to help with set up for the match.
Items needed
The following are still needed to make the Area 3 match a success. Loan of this equipment/supplies will be greatly appreciated!
·
4-Wheelers during the match days
·
Fence posts (Will be returned after the match)
Skills Development Matches
There are four dates set aside for Skills Development Matches on the LE Range. The May and the June dates have been designated as pistol. They will be similar in format to the last year’s sessions, where focus will be placed on building up the skills of “C” and “D” level shooters.
The next the Skills Development Match is Sunday, June 5. Registration and setup at 9:00 AM, LE range, Millcreek Rifle Club. Registration Fee is $15 for members. Bring a gun that runs, 3 or more magazines, belt and holster, and 100+ rounds of ammunition.
A long gun format is scheduled for the September date. For more information, contact Rob Daniels, Long Gun Director at Rob@minpin.com.
NRA Membership
As part of shooting at the Millcreek Rifle Club range, it is required that all MPSL members also belong to the NRA. Please bring a copy of your NRA publication with the address label or a NRA membership card as a proof of current membership when you renew MPSL membership for 2005.
If your NRA membership has lapsed, they can be renewed at a discount through the club.
2005 Calendar
One of the membership requirements of MPSL is setting up two stages during the year. The dates are posted below. Please check at your calendars and sign up for two stages when you renew your membership. We ask that all the dates are filled before getting a second person on them. If you shoot long guns, we also ask you to focus on getting those slots filled first. For signups or scheduling issues, please contact Jon Espy at jespy@gearforsports.com.
